Job Description
The Communication Specialist builds Louisville Water’s brand through storytelling, communication strategies, and media relations. The Specialist helps manage Louisville Water’s media relations by proactively pitching stories, facilitating media requests, and coordinating on-camera work. As a primary storyteller, the Communication Specialist works with a team to develop and implement a brand journalism strategy that includes website and social media channels, internal communications, and customer communications. The Specialist also supports other departments with creating and/or editing materials, develops content and guides creation, and manages the publication of annual reports and other special publications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with developing and maintaining a content calendar for Louisville Water’s brand journalism and media relations. Identifies new opportunities to tell the Louisville Water story and actively pitches media stories.
Responds to media request in a timely and efficient manner.
Develops and maintains relationships with journalists, community partners, internal stakeholders, etc.
Writes content for Louisville Water channels. This can include on-site event attendance, interviewing employees and community stakeholders.
Leads the collection of b-roll and/or images needed to support storytelling.
Key member of the crisis response team. Helps respond to emergency needs which may include research, message development and/or on-site media facilitation.
Co-leads content creation for daily and weekly content for internal and external newsletters, website, and intranet.
Maintain and evolve Louisville Water’s style guide. Helps ensure consistency of Louisville water voice, brand, and style in all communications.
Guide creation, publication and distribution of annual reports and other publications. Responsible for crafting conference abstracts and submitting project and employee award nominations.
Develops presentations, reports on campaign metrics, and provides recommendations on best practices.
Liaison between communications department and other departments to provide editorial assistance and other needs as they arise.
Write letters and articles for President and other Executive Leadership Team members as needed.
Proactively seeks opportunities to build a diverse audience and contributes to corresponding support materials.
Monitors and maintains budgeting processes for related efforts.

None
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works a 40-hour week in an office environment (with a hybrid option). Requires on-call availability; requires travel to corporate locations, job sites and community events. Flexible scheduling required to accommodate external corporate and community events. Early morning, evening, and weekend hours may also be required to fulfill job duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, English; and
Five (5) years of work experience in communications, public relations, or media relations; and
Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Water or other utility experience
Experienced in public speaking and on-camera interviews
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Excellent writing and speaking skills with proven experience working in this area.
Ability to interact and communicate across a variety of stakeholder groups.
Ability to present complex information in easily understandable format and tailored to audience.
Ability to react to change quickly and productively.
Excellent organizational skills to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously.
